My stay at Kilchoan Estate was a truly memorable experience. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, the estate’s natural beauty, from its rugged hills to tranquil freshwater lochs, was awe-inspiring. The estate itself offers fantastic facilities, with the Bunkhouse exceeding my assistant’s and my expectations. It was comfortable, well-stocked, and filled with thoughtful amenities that made our stay even more enjoyable. I visited the estate to conduct research for my 4th-year dissertation, focusing on how pollution levels affect freshwater ecosystems. Alongside my primary research, I was able to provide the Kilchoan team with insights into the species found in their freshwater lochs, particularly those located at the top of the estate. These lochs are vital to the local ecosystem and studying them added valuable depth to my dissertation. I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Marnik, who expertly coordinated the logistics of my data collection, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Special appreciation also goes to Luke, whose assistance during the data collection process was incredibly helpful. Lastly, thanks to Robin and the entire Kilchoan team for their warm hospitality and support, making our stay both productive and enjoyable. Kilchoan Estate is a remarkable place, and my time there was enriched not only by the beauty of the surroundings but also by the kindness and professionalism of the people who make it so special.
