ROUTES TO KILCHOAN
If you are travelling to Kilchoan from overseas, you may find this VISIT SCOTLAND page useful. It includes tips and information on travel routes into Scotland.
BY ROAD
We are just over 2.5 hours from Glasgow. For a direct route, follow the M8 West to junction 30, then north on the A82 towards Tarbet. At Tarbet take the A83 and follow the signs for Inveraray and Lochgilphead (we highly recommend visiting THE GEORGE HOTEL in Inveraray for a meal!). At Lochgilphead, take the Oban road (A816). Continue on the A816 for approximately 20 miles until you come to the small village of Kilmelford, as you approach the village turn left on a road that is signposted Degnish, this single track road will follow the coast for another 5 miles until you reach the Kilchoan Estate
BY RAIL
Oban Train Station is 20 miles or a 30 minute drive away. Taxis are usually available at the station (fare £45.00 approximately each way). For those then wanting to rent a car, we recommend Oban Car Hire.
BY COACH/BUS
Oban is served by West Coast Motors and Scottish Citylink coaches which arrive in Oban or Lochgilphead, both 20 miles away. Local buses are also available but very infrequent, especially on Sundays. The nearest local bus stop is in the village of Kilmelford, this is still 5 miles from the estate, so if this is your only option please contact the estate office and we may be able to arrange collection from here.
BY FERRY
Oban is the hub of the island ferry service. Find out more at Calmac Ferries.
